Opening statements began Thursday, February 17, 2005, in Douglas County Court, in the trial of Kansas State University professor Thomas E. Murray. Murray, an English professor and linguistics expert, pictured in court Thursday, is charged with murdering his ex-wife, Carmin D. Ross, in November 2003 at her home in northwest Lawrence, Kan.
